What should I do at the scene of an accident?

Do not leave the scene until you have completed this list of suggested actions,

1. STOP immediately. If practical, move your vehicle to avoid obstructing traffic. Do not attempt to move a disabled vehicle (don't push or "limp" a damaged car).
2. ASSIST any injured persons. Have someone call the police. Repeat the call after 5 minutes.
3. RECORD information about the accident. You will need:

    • Names, phone numbers, and addresses of drivers, witnesses, and injured persons.
    • Drivers license number(s) and insurance carrier(s) of other driver(s).
    • Make, model, and license plate numbers of all vehicles involved.
4. MAKE A ROUGH DRAWING of scene, showing position and direction of cars and other details. If you have a camera, take pictures of the scene and damaged vehicles.
5. DO NOT ACCEPT BLAME or admit fault. Do not accept claim settlement at the scene of the accident.
6. REMAIN CALM. Be courteous and consistent in your account of the accident.
7. CALL MENDELSON AUTO BODY (925-838-2343). We will arrange towing, rental car, and help you negotiate with insurance companies.

Can an Insurance Company require that my car be repaired at a specific shop?

No, You have the right to go to the repair shop of your choice. Insurance companies are prohibited from requiring you to go to a particular shop. Some insurance companies may want you to visit their "drive-thru" claim center before your car is repaired. You can bring your car to MENDELSON AUTOBODY and have your insurance adjuster meet you there.

Should my insurance company be notified before repairs?

Yes, you should notify your company that you've had an accident and request that they provide you with a claim number.

Must I get air conditioning serviced?

To help ensure dependable, trouble-free performance, replace your fuel filter approximately every 30,000 miles or as recommended in your vehicle's owner's manual.

Do I need to contact more than one shop for an estimate?

No, You are NOT required by law to get more than one estimate or appraisal.

Will MENDELSON AUTOBODY help me work with insurance companies?

Yes, Once you have established an insurance claim, MENDELSON AUTOBODY will work out all the details with any insurance companies.

Will I have to pay for undiscovered damage found on my vehicle after it is repaired?

No, Typically, the insurance company will cover any undiscovered damage caused by the accident that is found after the car is repaired.
